Every 3D artist will agree, realistic human skin is the hardest effect to achieve in computer graphics. fR-Skin, now included in finalRender R3, addresses this complex task of rendering human skin, along with the complex subsurface scattering algorithms that are involved.
Right now, several human skin rendering algorithms are out there. Some are good, some have restrictions and some are extremely slow. fR-Skin uses a multi-layer skin approach. Dermis and Epidermis Layers let you control the color of circulating blood and the penetration depth of the light rays.
A refractive value of the skin material allows for the creation of complex fantastical skin structures that might take light in or reflect light more than standard human skin. Parameters to define the dryness or wetness of the skin allow for full control of the final look.
